Janae Harris Bell

Janae, born and raised in De Smet, grew up with a love and appreciation of the arts active in music and theater. Her career interests, however, steered her toward medicine. After graduating from USD School of Medicine in 1985, she completed her Internal Medicine training in Michigan and then went on to serve in the US Army for 10 years posted at Ft. Jackson, SC. She returned to the midwest when she and Steve moved to the Willmar, MN where they raised their three lovely daughters. She retired in 2023 after three decades of practicing both in a private Internal Medicine practice and as Hospitalist. There are dreams of a more full role as grandma to Lucas, Theo, and granddog Juni.
Hometown pride, a deep appreciation for the beauty of the prairie and the art of Dunn, and belief in the mission of the HDS brought her to the board in 2021. The annual Painting on the Prairie gathering allows her the opportunity to stretch her creative muscles (without a paintbrush in hand).
